Chief Electrical Engineer
About The Position
The Chief Electrical Engineer is a key role on the global Manufacturing, Technology, and Engineering (MTE) team within Arconic’s Rolled Products business group. The MTE group supports equipment reliability and process improvement, troubleshooting and upgrades, automation and smart manufacturing, standard practices, and major capital projects. The position supports domestic and international manufacturing facilities and requires a high degree of autonomy. The preferred home location is Davenport, Iowa, and travel is required. The Chief Electrical Engineer leads Arconic’s Electrical Engineering Network and directly supervises MTE engineers and technicians, including succession planning and professional development. The role owns corporate standards for electrical systems and electrical safety; provides expertise in metals-industry control systems and support for production operations and equipment maintenance; and leads or supports investigations of significant electrical-related downtime. The incumbent may technically manage or lead projects with substantial business impact or risk and provide on-site support for critical process or equipment problems across locations. The role also contributes to process, maintenance, and efficiency initiatives using statistical process control, reliability excellence, and data analysis. Strong organizational and team-building skills are important for facilitating discussions among stakeholders with differing views and guiding teams toward consensus.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
- At least 15 years of electrical engineering experience in a metals or heavy manufacturing environment.
- Experience with AC/DC drive systems, AC/DC motor applications, maintenance and theory, control systems, and automation.
- Experience leading capital and expense projects in a factory environment.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States; employment eligibility verification is required at hire. Visa sponsorship is unavailable.
- Ability to meet export-control compliance requirements for access to controlled technology; authorizations from the relevant government agency may be required.
Nice To Haves
- Experience leading, managing, and implementing electrical projects, including design, installation, and commissioning.
- Ability to oversee craft personnel implementing engineered solutions and performing maintenance activities.
- Ability to communicate with personnel to identify issues, clarify requirements, and facilitate safe work practices, personal protective equipment use, and clearance/lock-tag-verify procedures.
- Experience managing external vendors providing electrical design and support.
- Demonstrated ability to work in teams and with cross-functional teams.
- Working knowledge of electrical engineering, industry safety standards, and related codes and specifications.
- 20 years of experience and working knowledge of electrical systems and manufacturing processes and principles in metals or heavy industry.
- Experience with medium-voltage distribution and transformer maintenance and applications.
- Experience estimating, justifying, managing, and installing capital projects.
- Strong electrical engineering, maintenance, and reliability background.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and creative-thinking skills.
Responsibilities
- Lead Arconic’s Electrical Engineering Network and directly supervise MTE engineers and technicians, including succession planning and development.
- Own corporate standards for electrical systems and electrical safety.
- Provide foundational expertise in metals-industry control systems, including rolling, coiling, leveling, and strip conveyance.
- Provide electrical engineering support and leadership to sustain production operations and equipment maintenance at rolling and finishing facilities.
- Support or lead problem solving for significant electrical-related downtime events.
- Provide expertise in variable-speed AC and DC drive systems above 1,000 hp; DC motor maintenance, overhaul, and rebuilding; medium- and low-voltage power systems in coordination with power engineers; automation equipment, process computers, and programmable logic controllers; and operational technology process networking and interfacing.
- Technically manage or lead projects with significant business impact or risk.
- Provide on-site support for critical process or equipment problems at Arconic locations.
- Guide teams through project-definition discussions and differing opinions, helping reach consensus as needed.
- Contribute to process, maintenance, and efficiency efforts using statistical process control, reliability excellence, and data analysis.
- Travel to support facilities as required.
