About The Position

Under general direction, the Chief, Division of Solid Waste Management plans, organizes, and directs the operation of the Division of Solid Waste Management of the Department of Waste Management and Recycling. This is a continuous filing exam with upcoming cut-off dates.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in business administration, public administration or related field.
  • Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists (formerly California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers).
  • Three years of full-time paid experience in the class of Waste Management Superintendent (formally Solid Waste Superintendent) in Sacramento County service.
  • Three years of full-time paid experience in the planning, organizing, and direction of a solid waste operation or activity.
  • A Master's Degree in Solid Waste Management or equivalent will be accepted in lieu of one year of the experience requirement.
  • Applicants must submit proof of requirements with the application.

  • Knowledge of budget preparation.
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of personnel management and supervision.
  • Knowledge of state and federal programs and legislation pertaining to solid waste removal and disposal.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, and directs the operation of the Division of Solid Waste Management.
  • Evaluate plans and proposals for solid waste removal and disposal.
  • Coordinate the work of engineers and technical personnel involved in planning solid waste projects.
  • Direct the preparation of complicated and comprehensive budgets.
  • Establish and maintain an effective public relations policy including coordination with federal and state regulatory agencies.
  • Analyze engineering and managerial problems and work out effective solutions.
  • Train and direct personnel.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with subordinates and others.
