About The Position

The Chief Development Officer (CDO) at Patty Baker Humane Society Naples (PBHSN) is responsible for the organization's fundraising program, encompassing annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, grants, corporate partnerships, special events, and donor relationships. This is a growth-oriented role focused on shaping the future of PBHSN, with opportunities for strategic planning and innovation. The CDO will lead a development team, manage a portfolio of major donors, and set the strategic direction for all revenue channels. The ideal candidate is energized by growing a program and team, and believes in the power of relationship-driven fundraising to support animal welfare.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Communications, Marketing, Sales, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive fundraising experience with demonstrated success across multiple revenue channels including major gifts, annual fund, events, corporate partnerships, and grants.
  • Minimum of 2 years in a leadership role managing a development team, with demonstrated ability to hire, develop, and retain high-performing staff.
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding annual fundraising revenue goals in a nonprofit environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in major donor cultivation and solicitation, including personal management of a donor portfolio.
  • Experience collecting and using data to perform strategic planning, report data-driven results, and drive positive outcomes.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to represent the organization professionally to colleagues, donors, corporate partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with CRM and donor management systems; experience with data analysis and reporting, technology-forward and proficient with computers, systems, and solutions like AI.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Flexible schedule including ability to work evenings and weekends for events, donor cultivation, and board engagements.
  • Comfortable working around animals including dogs and cats of all sizes.
  • Ability to move throughout the shelter and multiple locations as needed.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.

  • CFRE credential or equivalent professional certification
  • Experience in animal welfare, humane society, or any mission-driven nonprofit
  • Familiarity with the Naples, FL philanthropic community and donor landscape
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Responsibilities

  • Own the full scope of the organization's fundraising program: annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, grants, corporate partnerships, special events, and donor relationships.
  • Set the strategy for the fundraising program.
  • Build and lead the development team.
  • Grow the revenue for the organization.
  • Develop and lead PBHSN's comprehensive annual development plan in collaboration with the CEO, setting revenue targets, campaign strategies, and key performance indicators across every fundraising channel.
  • Own overall fundraising revenue performance and be accountable for reporting progress, identifying risks, and making strategic adjustments.
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for PBHSN's full event portfolio, including signature and community fundraising events.
  • Lead the growth of PBHSN's corporate partnership and sponsorship program.
  • Carry a personal portfolio of major gift prospects and donors.
  • Build and oversee the systems and pipeline that support major giving across the organization.
  • Direct and work in tandem with the Major Gifts Liaison to ensure the best possible outcomes.
  • Partner directly with the CEO on the highest-level donor relationships.
  • Set the strategic direction for planned giving and institutional funding.
  • Lead and develop the development team.
  • Manage the operational infrastructure that supports all fundraising activity.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO on board engagement and donor communications.
