About The Position

The Chief Development and Marketing Officer (CDMO) is part of the management team and responsible for all aspects of the organization’s marketing and communications, public policy and fund development efforts. The CDMO will lead the Marketing and Communications, Public Policy and Fund Development teams. This includes oversight and business development in the areas of marketing, communications, events, community engagement, public policy, fundraising, and private grant administration. This position partners cross-organizationally with programming to ensure agency alignment and teamwork to maximize market reach and mission impact.

Requirements

  • BA required, MA/MS preferred, in Business, Communications, Marketing, Nonprofit Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in nonprofit organizations (and/or transferable experience), including demonstrated success increasing responsibility in a development or advancement function required.
  • Experience in managing and forging relationships with multiple stakeholders and in cultivating new relationships.
  • Prior experience with grant management, fundraising and program/project oversight required.
  • Prior experience with office and database programs, Salesforce, and graphic design equipment/ programs preferred.
  • Prior supervision experience required
  • Current driver’s license required.
  • References and valid identification are required.
  • Must pass background checks.
  • Knowledge of best practices, trends and tools in Marketing/Communications, Public Policy and Fund Development.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of partners, volunteers, staff, and members of the community.
  • Ability to use database systems and general office programs including Salesforce, donor software, and Microsoft 365 applications, including SharePoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams
  • Excellent organizational development skills.
  • Ability to vision, plan, construct, articulate, implement and evaluate annual strategic work plans.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills are required.
  • Ability to plan and meet deadlines while managing multiple tasks and projects at one time.

Responsibilities

  • Participate with the CEO, management team and governing body to define goals and priority direction.
  • Department leadership includes vision, creating, partnering, and implementing department strategic plans and annual workplans.
  • Represents the organization for major partnerships with media, donors, partners, policymakers, etc.
  • Establish performance measures, monitor results to refine and improve marketing, public policy and fund development strategies.
  • Oversee brand reputation including internally for staff/board and external audiences.
  • Keep abreast of trends and best practices in marketing, communications, public policy and philanthropy.
  • Oversee and direct all day-to-day operations, policies and procedures, and activities for the Marketing and Communications, Public Policy and Fund Development Departments while ensuring annual goals are met or exceeded. This includes oversight of services, products/deliverables, and budgets related to assigned activities.
  • Oversee brand management and external/internal communications.
  • Develop proactive brand building and storytelling strategies, connecting efforts to thread strategic plans, while being adaptive and timely; ensuring consistent messaging, brand integrity and marketing activities.
  • Lead innovative marketing and communication strategies, including digital and social presence, to maximize thread’s influence and impact.
  • Ensure marketing and communications coordination between department teams via Partnership with programming/community to ensure content that raises awareness of brand and services.
  • Partnership with advocacy/policy to engage, inform decision makers and build thread’s credibility and support of advocacy/policy work.
  • Partnership with fund development to engage current and prospective donors in thread’s work.
  • Media relations / strengthens thread’s media presence and relationships with media.
  • Crisis and emergency communications.
  • Work closely with CEO and Board/Fund Development Committee to plan thread’s fund development goals and programs.
  • Foster a culture of philanthropy in fund development and communication activities to advance thread’s mission. This includes oversight of planning, coordinating, and assuring implementation of contributions from a balanced mix of sources, including individuals, corporate, foundation, government, etc.
  • Ensures compliance with all relevant regulations and laws, maintains accountability standards to donors, and ensures compliance with code of ethical principles and standards of professional conduct for fundraising executives.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key corporate and individual donors to cultivate, secure, and elevate support. Manage a portfolio of major donors.
  • Work closely with CEO and Board/Public Policy Committee to plan thread’s public policy goals and priority work.
  • Foster a culture of advocacy by overseeing and advancing public policy activities to support thread’s mission. This includes managing planning, coordination, evaluation, and monitoring activities and outcomes.
  • Ensures compliance with all relevant regulations and laws, maintains tracking of advocacy and lobbying activities, and ensures public policy efforts align with agency values.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key policy makers and partners to cultivate, secure, and elevate support.
  • Oversee thread’s public policy messaging in partnership with marketing/communication efforts.
