About The Position

The Chief Compliance Officer establishes strategic objectives and directs the enterprise-wide Compliance Program to ensure applicable legal and regulatory obligations are understood, assessed, implemented, and aligned with Choice’s risk appetite. This role oversees compliance strategy, policies, training, regulatory change management, exam management, legal oversight, issue remediation, and reporting to senior leadership and the Board of Directors. The Chief Compliance Officer partners across first and second lines of defense, business leaders, strategic partners, external counsel, and regulatory agencies to embed a transparent, accountable compliance and operational risk culture across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, management, risk, compliance, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of eight years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities of the role.
  • Financial industry experience in a commercial bank, community bank, or financial services company preferred.
  • Proven experience collaborating across departments and divisions to support organizational success.
  • Demonstrated experience leading enterprise-wide compliance programs, regulatory exams, compliance reporting, regulatory change management, and issue remediation.
  • Ability to influence and partner effectively with senior leadership, business partners, regulatory agencies, external counsel, and first and second line risk partners.
  • This position requires some travel to support business needs, including team collaboration, internal trainings, and cross-functional initiatives. The frequency and duration of travel will vary based on organizational priorities and team needs.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain the enterprise-wide Compliance Program strategy and operations; oversee all compliance and risk functions necessary to ensure compliance obligations across the company and applicable strategic partners are known and adhered to.
  • Provide quarterly reporting to the Board of Directors on relevant compliance activities, emerging issues, litigation status, regulatory trends, and compliance risk matters.
  • Manage personnel and budget under areas of responsibility to ensure cost-effective delivery of high-value compliance, risk, and legal oversight services.
  • Establish, maintain, and ensure adoption of compliance policies reflective of the company’s and partners’ legal and regulatory obligations.
  • Coordinate Enterprise Risk Management program-driven external legal advisory activities through cost-effective and knowledge-retaining approaches.
  • Oversee all regulatory exam and communication activities, ensuring a strategic approach and coordinated messaging across business areas.
  • Identify new and emerging compliance requirements and associated compliance risks; evaluate applicability to business areas and processes; educate the company and partners; and ensure compliance plans are in place.
  • Monitor the regulatory environment and identify industry trends to ensure strategic plans are informed by emerging risks and opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain an inventory of compliance requirements impacting the organization and partner with first and second line subject matter experts and leaders to identify roles and responsibilities for ongoing compliance.
  • Monitor and support appropriate management of regulatory or compliance-related issues and findings through oversight of remediation plans, ongoing reporting, and issue validation activities.
  • Monitor and report to the Board of Directors and other relevant parties on the status of litigation activities.
  • Oversee successful execution of key compliance functions, including complaints management, compliance training, compliance assessments, Reg E compliance, CRA compliance, exam management, and legal oversight.
  • Lead, recruit, direct, motivate, and develop the compliance team, maximizing individual contribution, professional growth, and team effectiveness.
  • Embed a compliance and operational risk culture throughout the company to promote transparency and accountability for inherent risks and controls.
  • Conduct regular one-on-ones to align cultural & business objectives, prioritize the most important work and coach to high performance.
  • Facilitate execution through effective situational leadership tools.
  • Support engagement and action by listening to team member feedback – what’s working, what’s not – support them in initiating and executing positive changes and provided them with adequate resources.
  • Support in the team members professional and personal.
  • Catch team members being approximately right through timely, individualized recognition.
  • Promote collaboration and face to face interaction.
