About The Position

The Chief Communications Officer / Communications Manager role at Hamilton County Juvenile Court is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communication strategies to inform internal and external audiences about the court's mission, goals, and services. This position involves managing internal communications, website content, media relations, and crisis communications, while also identifying grant funding opportunities and monitoring relevant national trends in juvenile justice.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, public administration, English, or a related field.
  • 3 years of comparable experience.
  • Working knowledge of public records laws and processes.
  • Experience managing or maintaining internal and external websites/web pages.
  • Computer/technical skills/abilities, including proficiency with Microsoft office suite (spreadsheets, database, presentation software).
  • Ability to learn and operate court systems for data collection and reporting.
  • Project/process management skills/abilities, including initiative, effort, commitment, and ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to assess and prioritize needs and work effectively within time restrictions.
  • Detail-oriented, well-organized, and able to plan and coordinate tasks.
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to explain complex concepts in an easily understandable way.
  • Ability to write reports that summarize data and make recommendations clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver presentations before specialized audiences.
  • Extensive knowledge of the programs and protocols utilized by Court systems.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Responsibilities

  • Writing, editing, and distributing professional communications to internal and external audiences.
  • Establishing and managing an internal communication newsletter for all HCJC employees.
  • Identifying messaging that informs, educates, and demonstrates how the HCJC serves, uplifts, and improves the lives of court-involved youth and families.
  • Reviewing and evaluating current communication strategies and infrastructure to determine effectiveness and make updates.
  • Identifying grant funding opportunities for HCJC in collaboration with the Presiding Judge and overseeing the grant application process.
  • Communicating with community partners, stakeholders, agencies, organizations, and members of the public.
  • Serving as the contact for all media inquiries and acting as spokesperson for the HCJC at the discretion of the Presiding Judge and Court Administrator.
  • Supporting HCJC Judges and Administrators with internal messaging and external communication opportunities.
  • Creating opportunities to proactively share messaging that supports the mission, goals, and objectives of HCJC.
  • Maintaining website reviews and implementing updates to ensure ease of navigation, accuracy, and adherence to brand standards.
  • Providing crisis communication direction and messaging in collaboration with HCJC judges and administration.
  • Monitoring national news for trending topics around juvenile justice topics that may impact or advance the work of HCJC.
  • Demonstrating regular and predictable attendance.
  • Performing other duties as administratively assigned.
