About The Position

Flagstar's Chief Audit Executive will be responsible for spearheading a top-tier audit management program. The Chief Audit Executive will be a progressive leader, setting the strategic direction and priorities of the audit function to manage program risks effectively and proactively. This individual will assist the Flagstar Audit Committee and Chair with efficient planning, reporting, and issue remediation and support the Flagstar control matters of importance. The Chief Audit Executive will have direct oversight for the entire Flagstar audit universe and administratively manage the Flagstar Credit Risk Review team.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate Degree (4 years or equivalent)
  • 15+ Years in Internal Audit leading Audit functions
  • In-depth knowledge of control process management and or risk management practices and techniques within a US Banking context.
  • Ensure a consistent enterprise-wide view and understanding of the combined risks of the business and their inter-relationships.
  • Possesses good understanding of credit risk control process or standard banking operations within world-class financial services organizations with complex products.
  • A change agent with experience modernizing audit programs using a proactive approach.
  • Demonstrated analytical and strategic approach to complex challenges leveraging data and metrics to guide strategic decision making to optimize results.
  • Demonstrated ability to credibly engage a wide range of key internal and external stakeholders.
  • A proven mentor/coach/teacher who invests time and energy to develop people beyond functional strengths ; builds high performing teams; and, develops internal successors by identifying , cultivating and sharing high-potential talent.

Responsibilities

  • Set the vision and strategy for Flagstar’s audit function, collaborating with all other senior leaders throughout the organization, ensuring alignment and consistency with Flagstar’s overall audit function.
  • Serve as the primary contact and Relationship Management with Regulators to understand and meet expectations.
  • Translate Internal Audit strategies into plans, monitor performance, and provide appropriate reporting.
  • Maintain and adjust the audit plan to address changes in Flagstar activities and conduct special reviews as needed.
  • Communicate trends in risk and control issues to key stakeholders.
  • Provide advice to the Business/Function Executives and their respective Senior Management Teams, as well as to other senior officers on the results of ongoing reviews of business control activities and operations at Flagstar.
  • Ensure adequate audit coverage of all Flagstar business entities and enterprise functions and provide overall opinions on internal controls and risk management practices to senior management, and to the audit committee of the Board of Directors.
  • Apply Professional judgment in ensuring audit standards satisfy industry and best practices standards for efficient and effective audits using a risk-based approach in determining the nature, extent and frequency of audit engagements included in the audit plan.
  • The audit plan should be adjusted as to address changes in Flagstar activities or to conduct special reviews of significant events based on risk and financial importance.
  • Deploy a risk-based audit approach that is aligned with the Flagstar Risk Pyramid.
  • Audits are aligned with internationally recognized COSO Internal Control Framework and with the Internal Control Objectives for Information Technology Framework (CobIT).
  • Effect change by ensuring the development of appropriate management action plans to address identified control deficiencies
  • May be responsible for talent management functions including: employment, performance evaluations, staff development/training, disciplinary actions, succession planning and ensuring all staff comply with compliance requirements.
  • Performs special projects, and additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Consistently adheres to regulatory and compliance policies and standards linked to the job as listed and complete required compliance trainings.
  • Accountable to maintain compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
