About The Position

This position serves as the Chief Administrative Officer for the Anchorage Fire Department (AFD). The Chief Administrative Officer reports directly to the Fire Chief, and directs the finance, capital projects, and human resource functions within AFD. Responsible for ensuring a consistent delivery of service, providing for quality control, continuous quality improvement, and ensuring the activities of the assigned Division(s) are consistent with the mission and within financial statutory obligations, while also assisting the Fire Chief with the administration and direction of the Department in support of Fire, Rescue, and EMS operations. May represent the Anchorage Fire Department at community events, and as liaison with municipal, state, and other public safety agencies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and eleven (11) years of professional experience in finance, budget, project management, and/or strategic planning.
  • OR Associate’s degree in Fire Administration, Public Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or related discipline and nine (9) years of professional experience in finance, budget, project management, and/or strategic planning.
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in Fire Administration, Public Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or related discipline and seven (7) years of professional experience in finance, budget, project management, and/or strategic planning.
  • OR Master’s degree in Fire Administration, Public Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or related discipline and five (5) years of professional experience in finance, budget, project management, and/or strategic planning.
  • Valid State of Alaska driver's license with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
  • Legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States.
  • Satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check (encompassing criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment).
  • Submission of a current copy of the applicant's Alaska Driver's License, and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states, if the Alaska Driver's License was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history.

  • Experience with Hiring, staffing, discipline, leave approval and other routine supervisory duties.
  • Approval of departmental procurement card purchases.
  • Monitor annual budget for an assigned section.
  • Knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Outlook, SAP programs.
  • Supervisory experience.
