About The Position

Hospice of San Joaquin is the oldest not-for-profit hospice in the county, with over 45 years of experience. We serve all of San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties. We seek a Dynamic, self-motivated Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) who thrives in a fast-paced environment and supports our mission. The CAO is an active, contributing member of the Executive Leadership Team. The CAO plans, directs, manages, and oversees the activities of the following departments: Marketing Team Development Dept. RN Admissions Team Additional services/duties at the discretion of the CEO. The CAO leads or participates in strategic planning, goal setting, and project management in support of Hospice of San Joaquin (HSJ). The CAO is responsible for creating and sustaining Hospice of San Joaquin as a results-oriented organization through expertise in organizational effectiveness, performance, measurement, and budget accountability. The position serves in an advisory capacity on all matters related to the department’s operations, taking initiative to develop administrative policy as required. Works closely with senior leadership to facilitate effective decision-making and processes. Functions as project manager for agency projects and implementations. Educate the community on the benefits of hospice care for patients at the end of life and ensure access to hospice care for all those who need it. Will provide education at hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, residential care facilities, community events, and more as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required, Master's preferred.
  • Experienced as determined by seven (7) years of senior management experience
  • Proven working experience in project management, Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification preferred
  • Unwavering commitment to quality and data-driven program evaluations
  • A strong team leader with experience in coordinating the team’s day-to-day activities, managing multiple priorities and deadlines, with complex problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations
  • Strategic visionary and agile, ability to think strategically, anticipate consequences and trends, ensuring enterprise-level plans are translated into the plans of the various business units and departments
  • Extensive knowledge in non-profit administration and operational execution
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with effective speaking and writing ability, human resource management abilities
  • Results drive, proven track record in exceeding goals and bottom-line orientation
  • Knowledge of business principles and techniques of administration, organization, and management to include an in-depth understanding of the key business issues/challenges that exist in the Hospice healthcare industry.

Responsibilities

  • Performs high-level administrative, technical, and professional work in directing and supervising the administration of day-to-day management of the organization in accordance with policy, regulations, and guidelines established by the governing board.
  • Plans, organizes, and facilitates managers, operations, strategic planning, and staff meetings.
  • Monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; assesses and monitors workload, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships; identifies improvement opportunities and directs change implementation.
  • Stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of hospice reimbursement and administrative practices and/or processes.
  • Accesses and monitors the facility for regulatory compliance and safety requirements in accordance with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Prepares and recommends long-range administrative plans and develops specific proposals for action on current and future organizational needs.
  • Report and monitor administrative organizational performance metrics.
  • Project Management through planning, designing, executing, and monitoring every aspect of projects.
  • Writes proposals, business development plans, and other kinds of materials for publication or presentation.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with community physicians, acute care hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, community resources, referral systems, vendors, and hospice staff to enhance quality hospice care.
  • Responsible for liaising with physicians, health care providers, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and assisted care facilities regarding hospice services.
  • Responsible for overseeing and delivering community education programs.
  • Will conduct required education in all contracted facilities.
  • Will offer and provide in-services as requested by MD offices, Hospitals, contracted facilities, and any other clinical referral source, as requested and appropriate.
  • Provide an effective and inspiring leadership style by actively participating in the administration of services while developing a broad and deep knowledge of all business units and associated programs
  • Identify opportunities in leveraging cross-program administrative strengths and identifying advantages of new opportunities, and/or to address organizational challenges
  • Participates in ensuring organization compliance with the Joint Commission, NGS, CMS, and Medicare regulatory requirements
  • Lead the continuous improvement of all internal systems to meet the demands of the organization
  • Participate in the development of strategies to develop key operational business units across the principal areas of HSJ – Hospice, Transitions, Palliative, Fundraising, and Enterprise
  • Develops and implements departmental goals and policies, including short and long-term strategic goals and project plans
  • Demonstrates clinical and educational competency in hospice areas of applied knowledge, skills, standards, and clinical services.
  • Take part in committees, including the Professional Advisory Committee and QAPI (Quality Assessment Performance Improvement), as needed
  • Supervises the Marketing team, Development Department, RN Admissions Team, and Intake team.
  • Mentors, develops, and directs their team, managing work allocations, training, problem resolution, performance evaluation, and the building of an effective team dynamic.
  • Identifies early when employees need assistance or clarification in job duties or agency expectations.
