About The Position

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting, the Chief, accountant will be responsible for overseeing the preparation, reconciliation, and quality control of financial reports for Valero's Canadian operations. This role involves preparing and designing the Canadian non-consolidated financial statements and supervising the Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting. In the absence of the Manager, the Supervisor will assume overall responsibility for the financial reporting department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent.
  • CPA accounting designation or actively working towards obtaining one.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in an accounting role, ideally in finance.
  • Proven experience in financial analysis within a complex environment.
  • Proficiency with an integrated accounting system (preferably SAP) and Business Warehouse (BW).
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to identify and resolve problems with minimal supervision.
  • Fluency in both English and French is essential.
  • A high level of organization, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team, motivating team members.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, analyze, and distribute monthly operational financial reports.
  • Ensure the timely preparation of SEC forms 10Q and 10K.
  • Serve as a resource person for the balance sheet reconciliation process, preparing and analyzing various account reconciliations.
  • Oversee the month-end closing tasks performed by the Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting, ensuring timely completion.
  • Validate the various databases and initiate necessary corrections.
  • Check, confirm, and analyze all intercompany accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations for all Canadian bank accounts.
  • Coordinate the preparation of the annual budget for administrative expenses.
  • Prepare and validate Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) documentation.
