About The Position

This position serves as the Chief Financial Officer for Prison Enterprises and is responsible for directing the agency’s financial planning, accounting operations, and overall fiscal management. This role oversees and coordinates all accounting and related financial functions for Prison Enterprises statewide. The position manages complex financial operations involving multiple funding sources and diverse enterprise activities within the Department of Public Safety and Corrections. The CFO ensures effective fiscal oversight, compliance, and strategic financial management in support of agency operations and organizational goals. Requirements

  • Eight years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR Six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in accounting plus five years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR A bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting plus five years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics plus five years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR An advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics plus four years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license plus three years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking.
  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
  • Applicants must authorize the HR Office of DPS&C-Corrections Services to contact prior employers to check references under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), to be considered for employment , by answering ‘YES’ to the PREA question.
  • Any degree, certificate, special license, or DD-214 must be verified by official documentation prior to hire.
  • Any qualifying experience that is based on college credit/college hours should have an accompanying transcript for verification.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs, and coordinates all accounting and related financial functions for Prison Enterprises.
  • Oversees financial operations for a statewide agency with multiple and diverse business activities.
  • Manages accounting processes involving a variety of funding sources and financial reporting requirements.
  • Ensures accurate financial oversight and compliance across dissimilar Prison Enterprises operations within the Department of Public Safety and Corrections.
  • Develops and implements financial procedures, controls, and reporting practices to support agency operations.
  • Provides strategic financial management and guidance to support operational and organizational objectives.
  • Coordinates complex accounting activities associated with multiple enterprise functions and statewide programs.
  • Monitors and evaluates fiscal operations to ensure efficiency, accountability, and compliance with applicable policies and regulations.
