About The Position

The Lead Chemotherapy Admixture Technician is responsible for assisting in the provision of medication services and acting as the lead person for all items Pharmacy in the Oncology Infusion Center Pharmacy. The Lead Pharmacy Technician will have all of the job responsibilities of the Chemotherapy Admixture Technician (CHEMOT) as listed below: Compound chemotherapy medications using proper aseptic technique. Maintain cleanliness of compounding areas, hoods, and related equipment. Properly handle and dispose of hazardous drugs and waste materials. Perform mathematical calculations to determine appropriate drug measurements for compounding of ordered medications. Assist in ordering supplies and medications. Receive and restock medications. Maintain any necessary QA logs, including (but not limited to) cleaning logs, temperature logs, waste logs, expired & destroyed medication logs, and others. Participate in training and orientation of new employees as needed. Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures. Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy. Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards. Perform other job duties as assigned. In addition to the above duties, the Lead Pharmacy Technician will have the following job responsibilities: Staff the position of “Lynx Puller” and accurately pull medications from the Lynx for compounding in the chemotherapy hoods. Resolve inventory discrepancies in the Lynx. Assist in ordering supplies and medications. Receive and restock medications in Infusion Pharmacy. Second check Chemotherapy Technicians in compounding area. Status patients in Athena for Infusion nursing staff. Conduct routine medication inventories and assist with inventory control of medications. Pull expired medications from the Lynx on a monthly basis and give to Pharmacy Director for disposal or credit.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of IV chemotherapy compounding experience required.
  • Proven experience working with multiple stakeholders in a problem-solving environment.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) required.
  • Pharmacy Technician License with the State of Illinois.
  • Ability to efficiently operate a standard office equipment including a personal computer, computer software (ie, Microsoft Word, Excel), telephone, fax machine, and any other operating system utilized for this position.
  • Skilled in entering medications into Lynx system.
  • Skilled in chemotherapy preparation using aseptic technique.
  • Basic knowledge of chemotherapy medications and their usages.

Nice To Haves

  • May work under 1:1 direct supervision during training for a maximum of 60 days while obtaining board certification.
