About The Position

The Chemist III position, 37011466, is in the Division of Environmental Assessment and Restoration’s Chemistry Program, Nutrients section, in Tallahassee. The incumbent works as a Senior Chemist and will be responsible for the analysis of environmental samples for nutrients, inorganic anions, and other related compounds as well as reviewing analytical reports on the test level. This work is critical for the assessment of water quality and restoration projects for the State of Florida.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of verifiable related experience in chemistry, environmental science, natural sciences, biological sciences, or physical sciences.
  • Post-secondary degrees from an accredited college or university with a major in chemistry, environmental science, natural sciences, biological sciences, or physical sciences may be used as an alternative for the required years of experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • A credential evaluation report from an approved agency must be submitted along with all foreign degrees.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge of the terminology, principles and techniques of chemical research, analysis or testing.
  • Knowledge of the procedures, techniques and equipment used in laboratory testing and analysis.
  • Knowledge of the methods of data collection.
  • Skill in the use of scientific laboratory and field equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Analysis of environmental samples for nutrients, inorganic anions, and other related compounds.
  • Reviewing analytical reports on the test level.
  • Conducting chemical research, tests and analyses using scientific methods and techniques.
  • Performing quantitative analysis of scientific data.
  • Collecting, recording and analyzing scientific data relating to chemistry.
  • Planning, organizing and coordinating work assignments.
  • Keeping accurate research records.
  • Utilizing problem-solving techniques.
  • Applying applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to the science of chemistry.
  • Working a daily schedule from 9 am to 6 pm within a 40-hour workweek.
  • Working after hours or on weekends if requested by the supervisor.
  • Standing for long periods of time, performing repetitive movements, and lifting and carrying up to 30 lb. weights for short distances.
