About The Position

This role drives high-impact product development, mentors emerging talent, and influences strategic decisions that shape the future of water analytics. This position is part of the Research & Development Chemistry team, located in Ames, IO, and will be Onsite. In this role, a typical day will look like: Developing and validating new chemical analysis methods for Hach instrumentation through independent research. Creating reagent formulations, calibrations, and quality control procedures with minimal supervision. Collaborating with marketing, engineering, and operations to commercialize new or modified products and applications. Providing technical leadership and mentorship to chemists, engineers, technicians, and interns. Supporting manufacturing through chemistry expertise, training, and problem-solving to improve production efficiency. Documenting development work, reviewing competitive literature, and translating market needs into product design decisions.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field with 0–2 years of experience; OR M.S. with 5+ years; OR B.S. with 12+ years of direct experience in chemistry manufacturing, product development, or R&D.
  • Demonstrated ability in chemistry design, characterization, functional testing, and problem-solving.
  • Expert-level proficiency in analytical laboratory techniques, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate technical information to technical and non-technical audiences.
