About The Position

The WDTC Chemist I must have a degree in chemistry, other physical science, or engineering from an accredited university and laboratory experience (or an equivalent education and year of experience with direct government or contractor supporting government laboratory chemistry and analytical operations). Must clearly demonstrate capability to effectively generate and obtain data, evaluate data, define problems, and design experiments. Must be capable of planning and executing a project with nominal guidance. Must be proficient in gas chromatography, spectroscopy, or other analytical instrumentation used in the laboratory. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of set-up, operation, sampling, calibration, quality control, data collection, and troubleshooting for test monitoring in a chemical agent or simulant environment. For personnel handling agents, a Level II Agent Handler certification from DPG or other Government facility approved to handle chemical warfare agents must be obtained and be in a Government CPRP; have experience using Solid Sorbent Tube (SST) samplers and bubblers; achieve test process air monitoring MINICAMS Operator certification; and have completed a minimum of 40 hours of on-the-job training in test and process monitoring.

Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology or related life science at least two (2) years of postgraduate laboratory experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
Excellent PC skills which may include database entry/management (e.g. Windows OS, Access, MS Office Suite).
Self-initiative and ability to work independently.
Ability to prioritize, schedule and organize work.
Must be a US Citizen.
The applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet and maintain eligibility requirements to be placed in a Public Trust Position.
Flexibility to respond to urgent project requests and/or changing priorities.
Drug-free workplace; urine testing for drugs are mandatory.
Must achieve and maintain certification in required subject areas.

Must be able to work with or around highly toxic material.
Must be experienced with operating analytical instrumentation (primarily Gas/liquid chromatographs and mass spectroscopy).
Capable of diagnosing source of instrument problems and can perform routine repairs.
Can correct instrumentation problems identified by QC procedures and/or analysis of data.
Can implement methodology as directed from more experienced staff.
Disciplined in record keeping and familiar with QA/QC procedures.
