About The Position

Can Art Aluminum Extrusion is seeking a Chemical Technician for their Mississauga location. This role involves maintaining and troubleshooting the company's Anodizing Process Tanks and Wastewater Treatment System. Can Art is a privately held North American extruder of standard and custom aluminum profiles, serving the Architectural, Automotive, Consumer base, and Industrial Distribution sectors. Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Chemical Laboratory Technology, Chemical Engineering Technology, Chemistry, Environmental Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong understanding of inorganic chemistry and analytical laboratory techniques.
  • Experience performing titrations, solution preparation, and chemical calculations.
  • Experience using, calibrating, and maintaining laboratory analytical equipment (e.g., pH meters, conductivity meters, spectrophotometers).
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and basic computer systems for data entry and record keeping.
  • Authorization to work in Canada without sponsorship is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Electroplating or anodizing experience would be an asset.
  • Experience with routine maintenance operations is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily chemical analysis of all anodizing process baths using titration and other laboratory methods.
  • Monitor bath chemistry and maintain process parameters within specification.
  • Calculate and perform chemical additions to process tanks.
  • Monitor, test, and adjust the Wastewater Treatment System to ensure environmental compliance.
  • Collect and record laboratory data accurately in process logs and electronic systems.
  • Perform calibration and verification of laboratory instruments including pH meters, conductivity meters, spectrophotometers, and other analytical equipment.
  • Assist in troubleshooting process chemistry, coating quality, and customer quality issues.
  • Conduct routine inspections of chemical storage, pumps, dosing systems, and process equipment.
  • Clean and maintain filter presses and other wastewater treatment equipment.
  • Support preventive maintenance activities related to chemical systems.
  • Maintain laboratory housekeeping and comply with all environmental and safety regulations.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to process chemistry and product quality.
  • Provide weekend coverage for routine laboratory and chemical maintenance activities as required.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.
  • Responsible to follow the Occupational Health and Safety Act and all Can Art Company Policies.
