About The Position

Intertek is seeking a Chemical Technician II to join their Nutraceutical Services laboratory in Champaign, Illinois. This role offers opportunities in the product testing industry, focusing on helping clients in the manufacturing and distribution of nutraceuticals and food products through assurance, testing, inspection, auditing, and certification. The Chemical Technician II will work with experienced chemists in instrumental analysis, learning various methods for identifying and quantifying molecules, with a specialization in botanical component analysis. The role is suitable for hardworking, conscientious scientists with good problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work well in a team. The ideal candidate will be energetic, have high urgency, and possess good interpersonal skills.

Requirements

  • BA/BS Chemistry, Biology or related scientific degree required
  • Knowledge of analytical chemistry
  • Knowledge of HPLC operation
  • 2+ years of related industry experience in an analytical laboratory
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety precautions and protocols for safe handling and the disposal of hazardous agents/reagents, chemicals and materials
  • Organization, communication, and analytical skills
  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate technical and business information, both oral and written to others, including co-workers, supervisors, subordinates, clients, and vendors
  • Intermediate mathematical skills, including algebraic functions, statistics (mean, median, standard deviation, variance, probability), basic geometry (area, volume calculations), and scientific calculators
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to work varied and extended hours/days, as business dictates

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledgeable in use of data acquisition software and instrument operating software (e.g. Turbochrom, Cerity, WinLab)
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, procedures and regulations

Responsibilities

  • Plans, performs and completes projects under direct supervision
  • Demonstrates proficiency in setting up, adjusting, operating and calibrating laboratory equipment and instruments
  • Independently performs lab tests to determine physical and chemical characteristics
  • Performs data analysis
  • May begin doing some technical assessment
  • Works under general supervision
  • Primary job functions requires a certain degree of independence and judgement
  • Relies on limited experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals
  • Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned
