About The Position

As a supplier of process systems, our clients are continuously asking us to provide more balance-of-plant scope and additional scope that requires a large portion of vendor purchases. As our projects become more complex, we are seeking a Chemical Process Engineer I to join our team. This role will involve modeling and optimizing system performance, specifying and selecting equipment, creating process documentation, and supporting commissioning activities. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, experience with process calculators or thermodynamic databases, and a strong understanding of safety procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or other engineering discipline with significant study of refrigeration systems.
  • Experience working in engineering research or testing environment.
  • Experience using process calculators for process system modeling (Symmetry HYSYS CHEMCAD etc.) or significant experience utilizing thermodynamic databases (REFPROP NIST steam tables etc.)
  • New Employee Safety Training is required by all newly hired employees, including Safety Awareness
  • All safety related training is provided and tracked by the EHS Director
  • Job specific training modules deemed necessary by employee’s Manager or Director will be required of all employees on an ongoing basis

Responsibilities

  • Model and optimize system performance in the Symmetry process calculator
  • Specify, evaluate, and select major and minor system components including: Compression equipment, Expansion equipment, Heat exchange equipment, Distillation columns, Valves, Piping
  • Create and modify Process Flow Diagrams, Heat & Material Balance tables and P&IDs
  • Write and review operating and testing procedures
  • Calculate plant performance and gather preliminary pricing and other engineering information and draft technical proposals for Applied Technologies process plants
  • Review safety documentation and scenarios and participate in HAZOP meetings
  • Attend remote and onsite support for commissioning activities including plant operation training and troubleshooting
  • Development of process tools to improve or streamline design/selection of equipment
  • Perform engineering calculations to estimate system size or utility demands
  • Review customer specifications and incorporate into existing or new systems
  • Work closely with Sales Team, Design Team, Project Engineers and Field Service Engineers
  • Recruiting & training of any junior process engineers
