About The Position

SSOE is looking for a Junior Process Engineer to support local clients and virtually support project teams in other locations. This individual will work on projects from inception through construction, developing PFD’s, P&ID’s, process calculations, equipment selection and specifications. The role involves supporting clients in the chemical industry using sound engineering practices. Responsibilities include supporting engineering studies, writing reports, developing and completing engineering calculations, performing or assisting with the development of PFDs and P&IDs, process calculations, equipment specifications, and procurement. The role also involves supporting the development of engineering deliverables, coordinating with multi-discipline engineering and design teams, supporting the design and specification of clean-in-place (CIP), general and clean-out -of-place (COP) sanitation, participating in process-layout reviews, reviewing vendor submittals, shop drawings, equipment information, and field installation work, assisting in the creation of bid packages, and performing field work (travel up to 30%) including existing-condition verification, site surveys, equipment inspection, tie-in identification, and construction/start-up support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering which qualifies for licensure in the state of practice.
  • 4+ years of working experience required.
  • Ability to work in a client-facing role while partnering with contractors and vendors.
  • Experience with building codes, GMP requirements, and focus on food safe / sanitary design.
  • Experience with utility system equipment and distribution systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to food, beverage GMP plants and other related industrial settings strongly preferred.
  • Experience with simulations softwares like ASPEN or CHEMCAD a Plus.
  • Experience using Pipe Flo or AFT Fathom a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting engineering studies, write reports, develop and complete engineering calculations.

  • Support development of engineering deliverables.

  • Participate in process-layout reviews to evaluate sanitary routing, equipment access, cleanability, cross-contamination risk, allergen segregation, utility distribution, drainage, and constructability.
  • Review vendor submittals, shop drawings, equipment information, and field installation work for conformance with project requirements.
  • Assist in the creation of bid packages.
  • Perform field work (travel up to 30%) in operating facilities, including existing-condition verification, site surveys, equipment inspection, tie-in identification, and construction/start-up support.
