About The Position

This role involves going out to client sites to inventory, pack, and remove chemical wastes. The Chemical Operator will prepare shipments of hazardous and non-hazardous waste for transport, receive all client waste (both bulk liquids/solids and containerized), and take samples from waste vehicles and containers for lab analysis. The position requires ensuring waste is processed in a timely and safe manner, confirming that incoming waste conforms with acceptance protocol, and ensuring safe operations and procedures are always followed. The role also includes completing and submitting paperwork properly, conducting job hazard risk assessments, and ensuring superior customer service is provided. The Chemical Operator will notify the Shift Supervisor/General Manager of any defects, damages, mistakes, errors, contamination, spills, other incidents, or accidents. Additionally, the role involves attending Household Hazardous Waste collection events to identify, classify, and separate waste, and preparing necessary waste manifest documents for transport back to the Stevenage facility. Other tasks as required will also be part of the responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Comfortable working weekend shifts. (mainly Saturday, with 2 - 3 Sunday events each season)
  • Degree or Diploma in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Environmental Technology, or equivalent.
  • Must be motivated, able to multi-task, and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must be safety conscious and detail oriented.
  • Must be comfortable working in a mostly outdoor environment (4 seasons).
  • Must be willing and able to report to work clean shaven (respirator safety).
  • Ability to follow procedures and execute work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to repetitively lift 40 lbs. above waist.
  • Valid work authorization in the country where the job is located is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with waste management regulations, Ontario regulation 347, Transportation of Dangerous Goods is an asset.
  • Previous hazardous and non-hazardous waste management experience is an asset.
  • Mechanical aptitude, including knowledge and use of hand tools is an asset.
