About The Position

The Chemical Operator 3 or Tank Farm Operator is responsible for safely overseeing and executing all chlorine unloading, storage, and handling operations within the tank farm. This role ensures strict compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations while maintaining efficient material flow to support production. This is a 1st shift position with shift hours being Monday-Thursday 6:00am-4:00pm with overtime on Fridays as needed. The pay range for this role is $25.00-$30.00 per hour, dependent upon experience and Massachusetts Water Treatment Licensing. This facility is located in Ludlow, MA 01056.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 3 or more years of experience in chemical manufacturing, tank farm operations, or hazardous material handling
  • Experience using a sit-down forklift required to move chemical drums
  • Working knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Programs (RMP)
  • Familiarity with railcar and tanker offloading systems
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols, emergency response, and regulatory compliance
  • Ability to work in a high-hazard, fast-paced environment with a strong attention to detail
  • Proficient in basic computer systems and documentation tools

Nice To Haves

  • Massachusetts Class 2 Wastewater Treatment License preferred but not required; candidates must be willing to complete the required training and obtain the license after hire.
  • Direct experience with chlorine or other highly hazardous chemicals strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform the safe offloading of chlorine from railcars, tankers, or other delivery systems, ensuring adherence to all established procedures and safety protocols.
  • Maintain full compliance with OSHA, EPA, DHS, and other applicable regulations, including Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) requirements. Enforce strict adherence to PPE and safety procedures.
  • Oversee daily tank farm activities including storage, transfer, and inventory management of chlorine and related chemicals.
  • Serve as a first responder for chlorine-related incidents, ensuring proper execution of emergency procedures, leak response, and evacuation protocols.
  • Coordinate inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs of tanks, piping, valves, scrubbers, and monitoring systems to ensure safe and reliable operations.
  • Track and reconcile chlorine inventory levels. Ensure accurate completion of logs, manifests, inspection reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Collect and test chemical and wastewater samples using established procedures to verify pH, strength, specific gravity, and other required specifications, accurately documenting results and reporting materials that do not meet standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve safety, efficiency, and reliability of chlorine handling and tank farm operations.
  • Work closely with production, maintenance, EHS, and logistics teams to ensure uninterrupted operations and alignment on priorities.
  • Supervise contractors performing work in the tank farm area, ensuring compliance with site safety requirements.
