About The Position

We're looking for a Chemical Operations Technician to join our team! Under the direction of the area manager, handles and processes explosive powders and propellants. The Chemical Operations Technician is responsible for safely and efficiently handling the energetic compositions used in PacSci EMC products. Strict adherence to all Safety and Standard Operating Procedures is required. This role involves accurate logging of time worked, maintenance of inventory logs, and completion of material traceability labels. The technician will also be responsible for the delivery of material to production lines, cleaning of facility and equipment, and handling of explosive and solvent wastes. Responsibilities include completing standard work checklists, 5S activities, and FOD control. The role also involves assisting in the updating of process documentation, participation in Daily Management meetings, and Process Hazards Analysis. Specific responsibilities within the Propellant Manufacturing Area (PMA) Milling Operation include weighing out raw materials (inert, 1.1 and 1.3 classified explosive materials), assembling and breaking down milling operations, performing milling operations, drying milled materials, loading and unloading dry milled powder, and loading operations with milled materials. The position also requires supporting post PMA operations clean-up activities and completion of travelers and process paperwork buy-offs. The technician must be willing to cross-train into other propellant and explosive manufacturing activities and work as directed by management.

Requirements

  • Read and understand written instructions.
  • Interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Complete documentation with a high level of accuracy.
  • Prioritize tasks and work on several formulations simultaneously.
  • Perform arithmetic calculations such as percentages, addition, subtraction, division and multiplication.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be willing to wear a full-face respirator and able to pass a respirator fit-test (no beards).
  • Must be able to receive forklift training certification.
  • Must be willing to cross-train into other propellant and explosive manufacturing activities and work as directed by management.
  • US citizenship is a requirement for this position due to U.S. Government contractual requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Previous Ordnance/Energetics experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Handles and processes explosive powders and propellants.

  • Handles and processes explosive and solvent wastes.
  • Completes Standard work checklists, 5S activities and FOD control.
  • Assists in the updating of process documentation.
  • Participates in Daily Management meetings.
  • Participates in Process Hazards Analysis.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Weighs out raw materials (inert, 1.1 and 1.3 classified explosive materials) from original manufacturer’s containers into intermediate containers.
  • Participates in team efforts to assemble and break-down milling operations.
  • Performs Milling operations on industrial milling equipment.
  • Dries milled materials.
  • Loads & unloads dry milled powder.
  • Loads operations with milled materials.
  • Supports all post PMA operations clean-up activities.
  • Completes travelers and process paperwork buy-offs.
  • Supports other operations (as needed) with these activities.
  • Wears a full-face respirator and passes a respirator fit-test.
  • Receives forklift training certification.
  • Cross-trains into other propellant and explosive manufacturing activities and works as directed by management.
