About The Position

The Chemical Operations Technician is responsible for safely and efficiently handling the energetic compositions used in PacSci EMC products. Under the direction of the area manager, handles and processes explosive powders and propellants with strict adherence to all Safety and Standard Operating Procedures. This role involves the breakdown of dry explosives, leading bulk breakdown of non-initiating explosives, assisting with wet initiating explosives, mixing lacquers, methanol washing, and screening energetics. The technician will also support powder blending group activities, wear a full-face respirator, and potentially train lower-level staff.

Requirements

• Complete documentation with a high level of accuracy.
• Prioritize tasks and work on several formulations simultaneously.
• Perform arithmetic calculations such as percentages, addition, subtraction, division and multiplication.

Nice To Haves

• 2+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
• Previous Ordnance/Energetics experience is a plus

Responsibilities

• Strict adherence to all Safety and Standard Operation Procedures
• Accurate logging of time worked to the appropriate Job Numbers
• Maintenance of accurate material movement documentation, magazine and oven inventory logs
• Accurate completion of Material traceability labels
• Delivery of material to production and other operation lines
• Cleaning of facility, equipment, vehicles, tooling and containers with water and/or solvents
• Handling and processing of explosive and solvent wastes
• Completion of Standard work checklists, 5S activities and FOD control
• Assist in the updating of process documentation
• Participation in Daily Management meetings
• Participation in Process Hazards Analysis
• Perform other related duties as assigned
• Breakdown of dry explosives from intermediate containers into increments for the production lines and chemical analysis
• Lead the Bulk breakdown of 1.3 and 1.1 (non-initiating) explosives
• Assist in the Bulk breakdown of wet 1.1 initiating explosives
• Washing and breakdown of intermediate containers of Wet 1.1a initiating explosives into increments for delivery to the production lines and the test/ analysis departments
• Mixing of Nitrocellulose lacquers
• Methanol washing of 1.3 energetics and raw materials
• Screening of 1.3 energetics and raw materials
• Support other operations (as needed) with these activities
• Support Powder Blending group activities such as delivery, inventory, and site-wide clean-up of spilled energetic powder
• Must be willing to wear a full-face respirator and able to pass a respirator fit-test (no beards)
• Must be able to receive forklift training and certification
• Must be willing to train Chem-Tech level one staff
