About The Position

Hands-On Chemical Handling / Shop Floor Position. Avtec Finishing is a metal-finishing processor seeking a Chemical Maintenance employee to help keep their production tanks properly maintained and ready for operation. This is a physical, hands-on position performed primarily in the shop. The role involves operating a forklift, moving chemical drums, and adding chemicals to production tanks based on lab testing results and established instructions. This position is ideal for someone with hazardous waste or industrial chemical-handling experience, or someone with a strong practical understanding of chemistry who enjoys physical work. Recent graduates with a basic chemistry degree are also welcome.

Requirements

  • Previous hazardous waste, industrial chemical-handling, or related experience; or chemistry education that provides a strong foundation for safe chemical handling.
  • Understanding of chemical compatibility and the risks of mixing incompatible chemicals.
  • Ability to follow procedures carefully without guessing, taking shortcuts, or making unauthorized substitutions.
  • Comfort working around industrial chemicals while following required safety practices.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English to follow chemical labels, safety instructions, and work procedures.
  • Basic math skills to understand quantities, measurements, and chemical-addition instructions.
  • Willingness to operate a forklift and complete required training.
  • Dependable attendance and the ability to report ready to work for the full scheduled shift.
  • A steady work ethic, attention to detail, and willingness to perform physical shop work.
  • Must adhere to strict security policies including restrictions on personal electronic devices, access control, and documentation procedures.
  • Must comply with CMMC 2.0 and ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations).

Responsibilities

  • Make chemical additions to production tanks based on lab testing results and established procedures.
  • Verify the correct chemical, tank, and quantity before making an addition.
  • Operate a forklift and use appropriate equipment to move chemical drums and supplies.
  • Follow chemical-handling, storage, labeling, and waste-handling procedures.
  • Read and follow work instructions and Safety Data Sheets.
  • Complete required records accurately.
  • Keep chemical storage and work areas clean and organized.
  • Communicate with the lab technician and production team about tank maintenance needs.
  • Stop and ask for guidance when a chemical, instruction, or condition is unclear.
