Chemical Engineer, Polymer Coatings

1XSan Carlos, CA
$200,000 - $248,000Onsite

About The Position

1X is developing humanoid robots for home use, aiming to automate chores and tasks to give people more free time. This involves solving complex challenges in robotics, AI, and manufacturing simultaneously, at scale, and in a safe form factor for home environments. The company has been working on these problems since 2014 and is now focused on shipping its flagship product, NEO, a home robot designed for real-world operation alongside people. 1X is seeking individuals inspired by the mission to create products that genuinely change how humans spend their time, safely and with abundance for all. The Materials Science team, where this role sits, focuses on inventing foundational technologies that enhance robot durability, tactile performance, energy efficiency, and manufacturability through research and development of advanced polymers, elastomers, structural adhesives, coatings, and functional materials. This work transitions rapidly from the lab to robotic systems, requiring close collaboration with various engineering disciplines.
