About The Position

The Coatings Engineer develops, optimizes, and supports production of advanced coating processes for aerospace and industrial gas turbine components. The role focuses on hands-on manufacturing engineering, particularly Air Plasma Spray (APS) and other thermal spray technologies, and includes working with robotic coating systems to develop processes, troubleshoot issues, and improve manufacturing capability, quality, and efficiency. The engineer collaborates with engineering and manufacturing teams to advance process readiness for production. Responsibilities include developing and qualifying coating processes; optimizing robotic spray programs, tooling, fixtures, and process parameters; supporting FANUC robotic coating systems; resolving coating and manufacturing issues; supporting new product introduction; improving manufacturing performance; and collaborating across functional teams on turbine component fabrication and repair. The role also involves preparing technical documentation and supporting dimensional inspection and process verification using CMM, laser scanning, and white-light scanning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials, or Metallurgical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least 2 years of manufacturing or process engineering experience in aerospace, gas turbine, or a similar technical field.
  • Proficiency in coating technologies; thermal spray and Air Plasma Spray experience is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Background in manufacturing process development, troubleshooting, and optimization methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a hands-on, on-site manufacturing environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise in Air Plasma Spray (APS), HVOF, or other related thermal spray technologies.
  • FANUC robotic programming and optimization for coating applications.
  • Experience manufacturing or repairing aerospace or industrial gas turbine components.
  • Proficiency in metallurgical laboratory testing and coating performance evaluation.
  • Familiarity with dimensional inspection technologies, including CMM, laser scanning, and white-light scanning.
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD and/or Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement frameworks.
  • Understanding of FAA PMA and RS-DER regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, qualify, and refine Air Plasma Spray (APS) and other thermal spray coating processes.
  • Create and optimize robotic spray programs, tooling, and fixtures, including process parameter adjustments.
  • Support FANUC robotic coating systems through programming, optimization, and equipment enhancements.
  • Diagnose coating and manufacturing issues and implement corrective measures.
  • Assist with new product introduction, process qualification, and production readiness.
  • Improve manufacturing processes, focusing on quality, yield, throughput, capability, and cost-efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Materials, Design, and Operations teams on turbine component fabrication and repair methodologies.
  • Develop technical procedures, specifications, engineering reports, and detailed work instructions.
  • Facilitate dimensional inspection and process verification using CMM, laser scanning, and white-light scanning.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and manufacturing process optimization initiatives.
