About The Position
Our client is seeking a Chemical Engineer II to support process safety, chemical systems, equipment readiness, and commissioning activities at a solar wafers manufacturing facility in Hemlock, MI. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer with experience in chemical manufacturing, process engineering, HAZOP/PHA participation, and plant startup support. The ideal candidate will bring strong process safety fundamentals, technical problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with plant operations, vendors, and cross-functional engineering teams.
Requirements
- 3+ years of chemical manufacturing, process engineering, or industrial experience
- Strong understanding of chemical process systems and engineering fundamentals
- Experience with process safety principles, OSHA PSM, and EHS requirements
- Familiarity with HAZOPs, PHAs, and chemical delivery systems
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills
- Ability to work onsite in a plant/startup manufacturing environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related engineering discipline required
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, ChemCAD, COMSOL, ProSim Plus, or MATLAB
- Experience with DOE and statistical tools such as JMP, Minitab, Origin, or SigmaZone
- Previous startup, commissioning, or manufacturing scale-up experience
- Willingness to travel domestically to support additional manufacturing sites as needed
Responsibilities
- Lead or support HAZOPs and PHAs to identify hazards and implement safeguards
- Support safe design, optimization, startup, and operation of chemical manufacturing systems
- Assist with commissioning, operational readiness, and startup activities
- Troubleshoot chemical and manufacturing process issues using structured problem-solving methods
- Update technical documentation including procedures, P&IDs, and control narratives
- Collaborate with plant personnel, vendors, and engineering teams to resolve operational challenges
- Analyze process data and apply statistical methods to improve process performance and reliability
- Communicate technical findings, project updates, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders
