About The Position

Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste. Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Chemical Engineer/Chemist and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Sciences, or Related Fields with zero (0) to three (3) years of relevant experience is required.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to adapt to work conditions strongly desired.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without SIMCO visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the WIPP Site (even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge).
  • Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns—including sensitive countries, state sponsors of terrorism, countries of risk, and other designated countries –are subject to additional security requirements that limit site access.
  • Working with project teams in engineering, sciences, or related fields.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with any aspect of WIPP or overall TRU program desired but not a requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Payloads Engineering group in multiple areas, primarily as a backup for the Payload Engineers (PE).
  • Processing of TRUCON code requests from generator site interface to CBFO approval.
  • Review of Chemical Compatibility Evaluations (CCEs).
  • Update of WDS chemical master list.
  • Review of Waste Stream Profile Forms (WSPFs).
  • Intersite TRAMPAC preparation.
  • Interface as needed with others in packaging group, CCP, sites, and other WIPP groups.
  • Candidate will be trained and qualified as a PE.
