About The Position

Performs all functions of counselor practice as outlined by NYS OASAS. Focus includes the development and implementation of individualized patient treatment plan with emphasis on counseling and guidance of recovery process.

Requirements

• Two years of college with specialization in chemical dependency or other human services area.
• BLS
• Two years of continuous abstinence, if recovering.
• Demonstrate knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of individual and group counseling as applied to the treatment of addiction and mental illness.
• Ability to work with other health care team members; within and outside the institution.
• Work closely with patients, families, and/or their significant others.
• Excellent communication skills are required.

• One year of full-time employment in an inpatient setting.

Responsibilities

• Works collaborative with medical team to develop treatment planning strategies.
• Responsible for making appropriate referrals and discharge planning of patients.
• Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient records.
• Participate in daily group counseling efforts of the unit.
• Responsible for acting as the primary Individual Counselor for patients in their recovery process.
