About The Position

First Quality is seeking a Chemical Blending Operator for their First Quality Home Care Products facility located in Salt Lake City, UT. This position operates mixers, pre-mixers, tanks, and other blending equipment and monitors the process to blend raw materials into liquid. The role involves safe handling of chemicals, adherence to safety policies, understanding of sanitation programs, and operation of forklifts. The operator will follow instructions and recipes to create batches, troubleshoot issues, and maintain accurate records. This role is crucial for ensuring the quality and safety of the products manufactured.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 - 3 years of experience as a machine operator in a production environment
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing at all levels of the organization. well as be able to receive communication from others
  • Must be well organized
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Must be able to read and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Must have good communication skills including reading, writing and communicating to others

Nice To Haves

  • Chemistry background preferred
  • Blending, batch mixing, experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Operates mixers, pre-mixers, and blending equipment to produce liquid soap.
  • Follows all safety policies and procedures.
  • Safe handling of all chemicals in compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Immediately reports any chemical or other spills and follows related procedures quarantine and clean up procedures.
  • Understands and follows Sanitation Program at all times, including preparation of sanitation solutions, proper sanitation procedures for mixers, pre-mixers, tanks, and totes.
  • Understands the fluid flow from raw material storage tanks to mixers and pre-mixers.
  • Transfers finished product from mixers and pre-mixers to storage tanks and between storage tanks following all related policies and procedures.
  • Operate forklift to safely and efficiently move materials for batching.
  • Knows and follows Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP) in the manufacture of safe, hygienic product.
  • Follows instructions / recipes / PI sheets to accurately make a batch using proper sequence of chemical addition.
  • Troubleshoots issues to ensure quality batches and proper functioning of equipment.
  • Follows escalation process to report broken or leaking equipment.
  • Reworks batches, as needed, to avoid product waste.
  • Accurately records data on batch sheets, batch logs, waste water logs, and in the logbook.
  • Maintain stock levels of non-bulk items in proper storage area.
  • Maintain salt levels in the brine tanks.
  • Conducts various tests following procedures including PH testing and hardness testing of the soft water system.
  • Complete required cleaning duties for the process area and all liquids process equipment.
  • Attends hazardous chemical seminars as required.
  • Effectively operates the waste water system.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, sanitary, and problem free process operation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
