Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Must complete a written aptitude evaluation and interview process.
  • Must be able to lift 40+ pounds.
  • Prior to assignment in an explosive area, employee must be examined by plant physician. This will include the requirements of the periodic physical plus EKG.
  • Persons assigned to this job are subject to certain restrictions under the Safe Explosives Act of 2002.
  • Prior to being placed in the assignment, successful bidders will be required to submit completed forms to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATFE) for certification as an "Employee Possessor" under the terms of this act.
  • Submission of this form will also result in a background check being performed by the BATFE to determine the employee's eligibility to possess explosives.
  • To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national; (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (a/k/a green card holder); (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. Section 1157; or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. Section 1158 or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
  • It is unlawful for certain categories of persons to possess (for business or personal reasons) firearms or ammunition.

Responsibilities

  • Use and handle chemicals such as soda ash, Nitric and Sulfuric acids, Resorcinol, Sodium Sulfate, Magnesium Styphnate, Lead Nitrite, and other related chemicals and solutions.
  • Identify, transport, and store explosive materials according to specified safety procedures.
  • Operate and tend mixing kettles, drowning tanks, storage tanks, filters, disposable tubs, etc. to manufacture the explosive ingredients used in priming mixtures.
  • Perform and maintain appropriate paperwork and record keeping, maintaining inventory and BATFE requirements of licenses.
  • Perform tasks such as reading and calibrating PH meters, moisture balances, and basic math skills to adjust solutions for proper makeup and other tasks needed to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Combine various ingredients into premixes by weighing, sieving and blending raw materials according to specified formulas.
  • Combine wet initialing powders, oxidizers, and fuel powders by use of a mixing machine from a remote control house to make wet priming mixtures.
  • Identify, transport and store explosive mixture according to specified procedure.
  • Perform and maintain appropriate paperwork and record keeping.
  • Perform other task in associated area as needed.
  • Adhere to all explosive safety procedures at all times.
