About The Position

Ramah Darom seeks a Chef to support the Head Chef in the day-to-day cooking and operations in retreat center kitchen. The Chef assists in all aspects of kitchen operations, including food preparation and production, quality and presentation of meals, inventory and ordering, and sanitation and food safety. This is a full-time position in Clayton, Georgia. This position requires a flexible schedule that varies with the camp and retreat calendar, including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays. The Chef will report to the Head Chef and will work as part of the entire Food & Beverage team to ensure consistent quality and safety across all kitchen and dining operations. The ideal candidate will bring culinary training or equivalent professional experience, several years of food service experience, and a strong work ethic. They will bring solid organizational skills, sound judgment, and a respectful, collaborative approach to working with kitchen staff and guests of diverse backgrounds.

Requirements

  • Three+ years of experience in a high-volume kitchen (camp, hotel, banquet, catering or restaurant).
  • Culinary degree or certificate from an accredited culinary program, or equivalent professional experience.
  • ServSafe certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • Ability to execute high-volume meal service for camps, retreats, conferences, banquets, and special events while maintaining consistent quality.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work as a team with staff as well as independently.
  • Must have availability to adhere to an irregular work schedule, which vary seasonally and include mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional split shifts during peak programming.
  • Ability to stand and work for extended periods, repeatedly lift up to 50 pounds, bend, reach and work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Commitment to consistency, attention to detail, food quality, and exceptional guest service.
  • Demonstrates patience, flexibility, professionalism, and a positive attitude while working with guests, campers, volunteers, and staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Kosher kitchen experience is a plus but not required — full training provided.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and executes high-quality meals using scratch cooking whenever practical for campers, guests and staff, following menus and recipes developed with the Head Chef.
  • Manages daily food production and line operations, ensuring meals are served on time and at the proper temperature, quality and presentation.
  • Prepares meals that accommodate dietary needs, including allergies and vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free diets.
  • Follows and enforces all food safety and sanitation standards, including safe food handling, storage, labeling and temperature controls.
  • Operates and maintains commercial kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Maintains cleaning schedules and ensures kitchen equipment is properly used, cleaned and maintained; reports maintenance needs promptly.
  • Ensures compliance with all local and state health department regulations.
  • Works alongside fellow kitchen staff to foster a positive, professional and safe work environment.
  • Assists with inventory management, receiving, and proper storage.
  • Works to minimize food waste while maximizing quality and efficient use of resources.
  • Responds to guest and staff inquiries regarding meals and dietary accommodations.
  • Represents Ramah Darom with the utmost professionalism at all times.
