About The Position

Hy-Vee is seeking a customer-focused Checker/Stocker to help keep the store running by serving customers at the register and keeping shelves stocked. The role includes processing transactions and bagging groceries, unloading products, stocking and rotating merchandise, and helping customers find items. The position is in a fast-paced retail store environment and includes night and weekend shifts. Training is provided; no education or experience is required. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.

Requirements

No education or experience requirements.
Follow detailed written or verbal instructions and complete tasks with a few concrete variables.
Perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
Understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions.
Communicate supply needs orally or in writing.
Work effectively as part of a team.
Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing 100 pounds or more, with or without mechanical assistance.
Continuously stand and walk on hard surfaces for extended periods.
Unload, lift, stock, and rotate incoming truck freight and merchandise.
Complete a pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, friendly customer service and help make customers’ visits positive.
Operate the cash register, scan products, and process cash, checks, credit cards, coupons, food stamps, WIC checks, rain checks, in-store charges, and lottery transactions.
Count back change, issue receipts, and provide cash refunds or credit memorandums for returned merchandise when needed.
Follow applicable guidelines for WIC, food stamps, and the sale of tobacco, liquor, and lottery tickets.
Bag or box merchandise and assist courtesy personnel with drive-up and carry-out service.
Unload products, open containers, stock shelves, and rotate merchandise for freshness and proper presentation.
Face and clean merchandise and shelves, understand shelf tags, and escort customers to requested items.
Stay knowledgeable about item look-up and department numbers, item features, weekly ad price changes, and sale items.
Keep the register area clean, maintain supplies, and report improper cash levels in the cash drawer.
Verify register balances at the beginning and end of shifts where applicable.
Communicate on the intercom or telephone, answer customer questions, and follow up with appropriate personnel as needed.
Remain aware of surroundings to support store safety and security.
Assist store management with displays and decorations for promotions and events.
Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as assigned.
Maintain personal hygiene and dress standards and follow Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines.
Report to work as scheduled and on time.
