About The Position
Provides transportation support for the residence by transporting residents to scheduled community activities and individual appointments, and by supporting deliveries and pickups for the community. Operates residence vehicles and assists residents with boarding, exiting, and handling their belongings. Ensures wheelchair users are properly secured and follows state passenger and equipment safety regulations. Maintains the appearance and operating condition of residence vehicles and coordinates medical appointment schedules with the Director of Nursing or the Health and Wellness Director/Coordinator. Keeps required certification current and participates in continuing education, staff meetings, in-services, and web-based training.
Requirements
- At least one year of prior experience in commercial driving or large vehicle operation.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current driver license for the state in which the vehicle operates.
- Clean driving record.
- Certified Nurse Aid License.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and the general public.
- Ability to seek out new methods and principles and incorporate them into existing practices.
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience in assisted living (AL), independent living (IL), or a skilled nursing facility (SNF).
- Prior experience in passenger transportation.
Responsibilities
- Operate the car, van, or bus located at the residence.
- Transport residents to appointments, shopping trips, community activities, and other locations as directed.
- Assist residents on and off the van or bus, or in and out of the car, and assist with their belongings.
- Ensure residents using wheelchairs are properly secured in the van or bus.
- Comply with state regulations regarding passenger and equipment safety.
- Maintain the appearance and operating condition of residence vehicles.
- Coordinate medical appointment schedules with the Director of Nursing or the Health and Wellness Director/Coordinator.
- Keep certification current and participate in continuing education, staff meetings, in-services, and web-based trainings.
