Responsibilities span CAD design and release, engineering analysis, concept development, validation and testing, supplier coordination, technical documentation, issue resolution, and vehicle program launch support. The position may involve up to 20% domestic and international travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional experience in chassis and brake system design, with a focus on braking systems.
  • Understanding of vehicle ride and handling, off-road performance, and NVH considerations specific to heavy-duty trucks and SUVs.
  • Working knowledge of vehicle body and NVH performance.
  • Knowledge of solid axle and independent suspension systems in off-road conditions.
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as CATIA V6, NX, or SolidWorks.
  • Experience using engineering tools to create and modify 2D and 3D drawings.
  • Familiarity with PDM systems such as ENOVIA V6 or Windchill PLM.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering design and processes.
  • Knowledge of tooling design variables and processes and related materials.
  • Innovative thinking and a proactive approach to the technical direction of chassis components.
  • Ability to explain technical topics to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Ability to prepare reports and spreadsheets as needed for project work.
  • Strong time management, self-management, organization, written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience specifically with pickup trucks, SUVs, or off-road vehicles is highly preferred.
  • Experience with electric or hybrid vehicle brake systems, such as regenerative braking integration or electromechanical brakes.
  • Experience with pickup trucks, SUVs, or off-road vehicles and knowledge of their brake durability and fade requirements, including severe environments and water fording.
  • CATIA V5 experience is highly preferred but not required.
  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency with CAE tools such as ANSYS, Nastran, and MATLAB/Simulink for advanced suspension modeling, dynamic simulations, or product optimization.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Six Sigma certification.
  • Project management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design of braking components, including hydraulic boosters, calipers, rotors, pads, and actuators, using CATIA V5; create 3D models and 2D drawings and support CAD release for prototypes and production.
  • Support engineering analyses, including FEA, multi-body simulation, and NVH studies; iterate designs using simulation and test results to optimize stopping performance and reliability.
  • Support development and documentation of brake system concepts and packaging layouts in consideration of vehicle geometry, on- and off-road use, performance, project requirements, and standards.
  • Support brake system validation planning, test-plan development, prototype builds, and bench and full-vehicle testing; analyze test and simulation correlations and support design refinements.
  • Collaborate with suppliers on brake component design and development, review supplier CAD models and drawings, and support technical direction and design reviews.
  • Participate in design reviews, DFMEA/PFMEA sessions, and design-for-manufacturing discussions; prepare and maintain specifications, test reports, control plans, and other engineering documents as needed.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, including CATIA V5 3D models and 2D drawings with GD&T as needed, technical specifications, DFMEAs, design review materials, and engineering reports.
  • Investigate and resolve development issues and support post-launch issues when requested; support corrective actions and continuous improvement of brake designs and development processes.
  • Review IQS, VDS, JP Power, and Consumer Reports to support warranty and quality issues.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and product engineering teams to support production- and service-feasible designs; participate in APQP/PPAP-type processes for vehicle program launches.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to engineers and other team members.
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time.
