About The Position

Port Sanibel Marina is seeking a Charter Captain to provide friendly, timely, and safe transportation to guests. This role involves identifying wildlife, answering guest questions, conducting safety inspections, and operating the vessel according to regulations. The captain must have a strong knowledge of SW Florida Waterways and current events to assist guests.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Must possess, a US Coast Guard Master 6 pack license
  • Strong speaking voice and confidence speaking to a group
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Must be able to move, stand, stoop and bend for an entire 8 hour shift.
  • Tasks require consistent use of both arms and legs
  • Must be willing to tolerate working outdoors year around for an entire shift
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and carry for short distances
  • Must be able to visually inspect condition of vessels, and equipment
  • Personality, positive attitude, friendly demeanor, broad social skills and work ethic are paramount
  • Demonstrate the ability to proactively approach and engage passengers and members for lengthy periods of time
  • Will be working in the elements of SW Florida weather
  • Common boat handling skills
  • Navigation knowledge of San Carlos Bay and Pine Island Sound
  • Candidates must have a 6- Pack license
  • Must have a valid TWIC card, be CPR certified and have First Aid certification
  • Must reside full time in SW Florida

  • First aid certification may be required
  • Fishing experience a plus

Responsibilities

  • Provide friendly, timely and safe transportation to all guests of Port Sanibel Marina for charters
  • Provide identification and other information about wildlife species encountered on the charter
  • Answer guest questions
  • Conduct a daily safety inspection of the vessel, following a checklist, prior to charter
  • Operate the vessel in a safe manner following all marina and Coast Guard rules and regulations
  • Maintain a good knowledge of the SW Florida Waterways and current events in order to expedite guest inquiries
  • Other duties as required
  • The captain is first and foremost responsible for the safety and well-being of passengers/guests, and the safe and efficient operation and management of the vessel.
  • The captain is the ultimate authority on the vessel, commanding respect and attention from all crew and passengers/guests
  • The captain is an ambassador of the Company’s reputation and always acts accordingly
