About The Position

At CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center - Bergan Mercy, the Charge RN oversees a department of frontline nurses caring for patients. The role supports nurses’ development and helps align their performance with departmental operational goals and objectives. The Charge RN should be accountable and confident, communicate effectively one-on-one and with groups, and be comfortable having difficult conversations while taking responsibility for staff and unit performance.

The position contributes to human resources and fiscal management, departmental leadership, and clinical competence. It supports quality patient care, regulatory compliance, staff development, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Graduate of a registered nursing program.
• Registered Nurse (RN) license in Nebraska, upon hire.
• Basic Life Support (CPR), upon hire.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 5 months.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 5 months.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program within 6 months.
• Previous experience in acute care, long-term care, or nursing homes adds value.
• Accountability and confidence; effective communication in one-on-one interactions and with groups; and comfort holding difficult conversations.

Responsibilities

• Oversee a department of frontline nurses caring for patients.
• Advocate for and support fellow nurses in reaching their potential in alignment with departmental operational goals and objectives.
• Support staffing, scheduling, staff development, certification tracking, and performance management activities.
• Assist with budget goals, payroll monitoring, and responsible resource utilization.
• Promote departmental goals, quality outcomes, regulatory compliance, staff communication, education, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain clinical expertise, serve as a specialty resource, and model professional and clinical excellence while ensuring quality patient care.
