The Charge Nurse (RN) is responsible for the day-to-day smooth running of the facility, including coordinating breaks/lunches, daily log checks, schedules, and enforcing policies. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and documenting nursing care of patients in accordance with established Federal, State, and accreditation standards. The Charge Nurse participates in direct patient care and maintains a clean, orderly, and safe environment. Key competencies include critical thinking for supervising and directing patient care, interpersonal skills for effective communication with patients, families, physicians, and staff, and strong job knowledge to perform duties ethically and legally within the scope of their license. The role requires adherence to work schedules, effective time management, and the ability to respond to emergent situations. Participation in continuing education, staff meetings, and QAPI/Infection Control programs is expected. The Charge Nurse must maintain their professional license, possess knowledge of specific database software and Microsoft Word, and be familiar with patient monitoring and emergency equipment.
