About The Position

The Charge Nurse, Motherbaby Unit position is a full-time role on the 3rd shift. The Baptist Health Lexington Mother/Baby Unit consists of 42 private rooms and is staffed by skilled nurses specializing in patient-centered postpartum care for mothers and newborns. The unit includes a newborn nursery staffed by two newborn assessment nurses (NANs), and patients receive breastfeeding guidance from staff and certified lactation consultants. Many team members have additional training and certification in maternal and newborn care. The unit's focus is on assisting families in getting the best start possible and ensuring a smooth transition home through quality care, education, and support. Under the direction of the Unit Director, Clinical House Supervisor, or Designee, the Charge Nurse supervises workflow and staff for a designated shift, overseeing the efficient functioning of the department. They ensure patient care is provided by addressing performance, risk management, and patient, family, and physician issues/concerns. The Charge Nurse models caring behaviors and serves as an exemplar of compassion, acceptance, respect, and empathy, fostering an environment focused on healing and wellness. As a clinical nurse, the Charge Nurse spends over 50% of their time coordinating, ensuring, and providing direct patient care, including nursing rounds, assessments, treatments, facilitating admissions/transfers/discharges, patient and family education, and care coordination.

Requirements

  • Active Kentucky RN license
  • BLS, ACLS and/or other designated unit specific certification training/requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or currently actively pursuing a BSN degree. (BSN degree must be completed within 5 years of starting program)
  • Minimum of one year of Registered Nurse experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provides supervision of workflow and staff for a designated shift in overseeing the efficient functioning of the department.
  • Assures the provision of patient care, by addressing performance, risk management, patient, family and physician issues/concerns as appropriate.
  • Role models caring behaviors in relationships with others.
  • Spends majority of his/her time (> 50%) coordinating, ensuring and providing direct patient care activities on the unit through: provision of nursing rounds, assessments and treatments; facilitating admission, transfer and discharge activities; provision of patient and family-centered education; care coordination and individualized treatment planning as applicable, etc.
