About The Position

The Medical Surgical Acute Charge RN oversees a department of frontline nurses caring for patients. The role supports nurses in reaching their full potential while advancing the department’s operational goals and objectives. The Charge RN mentors staff, evaluates and coaches care, maintains standards, provides direct patient care as needed, coordinates patient flow, and participates in hospital-wide bed board meetings. The position also involves understanding ethical dilemmas and coordinating the process for obtaining an Ethics Consult. Success requires accountability, confidence, strong communication skills, and comfort with performance-related conversations.

Requirements

Associate degree in Nursing.
Two years of RN experience within the applicable clinical specialty and/or charge nurse experience.
Arizona Registered Nurse license upon hire.
American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification.
American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification within six months.
Accountability and confidence.
Strong communication skills in one-on-one interactions and in front of groups.
Comfort with difficult conversations and responsibility for staff and unit performance.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Responsibilities

Mentor staff in competency, documentation, equipment use, plans of care, National Patient Safety Goals, and participation in inservice education.
Evaluate care provided by staff and coach them to improve care while ensuring standards of care are maintained.
Provide direct patient care as needed.
Understand the process for addressing ethical dilemmas and coordinate the process for obtaining an Ethics Consult.
Coordinate patient flow on the unit to facilitate timely and effective care.
Attend hospital-wide bed board meetings.
Support nurses in reaching their full potential in alignment with department operational goals and objectives.
