About The Position

As a Charge Nurse in UVA Health’s dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department, you will play a critical role in guiding care delivery for one of the region’s most specialized patient populations. This is an opportunity for an experienced Pediatric ED RN to lead from the front, supporting a high-performing team while ensuring exceptional care for patients under 21 years old. In a fast-paced environment designed exclusively for pediatric emergencies, your voice, judgment, and mentorship will make a daily impact. In this Charge Nurse position, you serve as both a clinical leader and operational anchor within a specialized Pediatric Emergency Unit that is fully separate from the adult ED. This structure allows for focused, age-appropriate emergency care and a highly collaborative pediatric-centered care model. On a typical day, you will balance real-time clinical decision-making with team coordination and support, including: Providing leadership for nursing staff within the Pediatric Emergency Department, Acting as a resource and mentor to nurses, offering guidance on complex pediatric cases and promoting clinical best practices, Coordinating patient flow, staffing assignments, and acuity management in a dynamic, high-volume environment, Collaborating closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure seamless care delivery, Supporting escalation pathways and participating in critical response situations for pediatric patients, Promoting adherence to evidence-based care standards and contributing to a culture of clinical excellence and safety. This role is ideal for a nurse who thrives in a fast-paced, high-acuity pediatric setting and is passionate about developing others while maintaining strong clinical involvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing or currently enrolled in an accredited nursing BSN/MSN program that will be completed within 5 years of hire.
  • RN Clinician 2 or higher who has been employed on the unit for 6 months or has had previous Charge Nurse experience from another unit/organization.
  • Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

Responsibilities
