About The Position

Position Summary: Functions as a charge nurse responsible for assigning patients to and monitoring the work of nurses within the unit on assigned shift and to assist the Clinical Manager in the supervision of assigned employees on shift. The position also carries a patient load and applies the nursing process to deliver basic, safe, therapeutic care, for individuals or groups of patients.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • Three (3) years of clinical nursing experience
  • Valid License by the Nevada State Board of Nursing to Practice as a Registered Nurse
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accepted by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Knowledge of modern principles of effective supervision
  • Knowledge of nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation and coordination of patient care)
  • Knowledge of standards of care
  • Knowledge of disease process
  • Knowledge of equipment used in providing patient care in specialty area
  • Knowledge of patient care plan development
  • Knowledge of patient evaluation and assessment techniques
  • Knowledge of body mechanics used with ambulating, transferring and repositioning patients
  • Knowledge of Nurse Practice Act
  • Knowledge of department and hospital safety practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of patient rights
  • Knowledge of infection control policies and practices
  • Knowledge of handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials
  • Knowledge of department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of age specific patient care practices
  • Skill in assigning and monitoring the work of others
  • Skill in assigning work to cover patients' needs
  • Skill in evaluating quality control
  • Skill in implementing nursing process including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation
  • Skill in working with high risk or critically ill patients
  • Skill in performing invasive nursing procedures associated with area of specialty
  • Skill in developing and implementing education programs associated with specialty
  • Skill in organizing, prioritizing and delegating work
  • Skill in communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds under stressful conditions
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties
  • Skill in efficient, effective and safe use of equipment
  • Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting
  • Stamina to stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Strength to examine and treat varied individuals
  • Vision to use standard office equipment and read printed materials including a VDT screen
  • Hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone
  • Strength and agility to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently to move objects

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum two (2) years experience as a Charge Nurse - OR (surgical services)
  • Ortho, Neuro and Spine experience
  • Certification in Specialty Area may be required in some positions
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Trauma Nurse Core Certification
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Protocol may be required in some positions
