About The Position

The Charge Master Analyst plays a critical role in maintaining the accuracy, compliance, and effectiveness of McAlester Regional Health Center’s Charge Description Master (CDM) and related charge capture processes. This position works closely with clinical, ancillary, finance, coding, billing, information technology, and revenue cycle departments to ensure services, supplies, medications, procedures, and other billable items are accurately represented, appropriately priced, properly coded, and billed according to applicable payer and regulatory requirements. In a rural hospital environment, the Charge Master Analyst serves as an important revenue integrity resource. The position assists departments with identifying charge capture opportunities, correcting billing issues, implementing new services, maintaining pricing consistency, and reducing revenue leakage. Through careful analysis and collaboration, this role supports accurate patient billing, regulatory compliance, and the financial sustainability of the organization.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two or more years of experience in hospital revenue cycle, chargemaster maintenance, billing, coding, reimbursement, finance, health information management, or related healthcare operations.
  • Experience working with hospital outpatient billing and charge capture processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately analyze charge and billing information.
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple departments and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Relevant healthcare revenue cycle experience may be considered in lieu of formal education requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare billing, coding, reimbursement, and revenue cycle processes.
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify discrepancies, improve charge capture, and support revenue integrity.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills are needed to collaborate effectively with multiple departments, manage competing priorities, maintain confidentiality, and stay current with regulatory, payer, and coding requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Health Information Management, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Nursing, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a rural or community hospital environment.
  • Experience with hospital information systems, electronic health records, billing systems, or revenue cycle software.
  • Knowledge of hospital coding, reimbursement, payer requirements, and revenue integrity practices.
  • Experience with charge audits, pricing reviews, or charge master maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update the Charge Description Master to ensure accurate services, procedures, supplies, medications, pricing, and coding.
  • Review charge capture and billing processes to identify discrepancies, compliance issues, and revenue opportunities.
  • Collaborate with clinical, finance, coding, billing, IT, and revenue cycle departments to resolve charge-related issues.
  • Assist with implementing new services, system updates, pricing changes, and Charge Description Master revisions.
  • Monitor payer requirements, coding guidelines, reimbursement changes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct charge reviews and audits to support accurate billing, compliance, and revenue integrity.
  • Provide guidance to departments on charge capture practices and maintain documentation of changes and findings.
  • Prepare reports and communicate recommendations to leadership and appropriate departments.
