This role provides spiritual and emotional support during illness, injury, crisis and/or emergency. The Chaplain performs spiritual care, effectively documenting spiritual care visits, and conducts spiritual care services and duties including arranging worship and administering rituals. The position educates internal and external healthcare groups on spiritual and religious care and responsibilities of chaplains, networks with community faith leaders, and serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team, collaborating with others to develop and provide spiritual support to clients and families. The Chaplain demonstrates knowledge and experience in providing spiritual support, ministers to people of diverse faith traditions with respect for cultural diversity, and provides education and spiritual care events within the hospital and broader community. Additionally, the Chaplain supports, teaches, and mentors peers and students, provides spiritual leadership at organizational events, manages complex cases by consulting with teams, and follows ethical codes and departmental policies. The role requires critical thinking skills under adverse situations, awareness of personal biases, and the ability to set them aside. The Chaplain must establish and maintain effective professional relationships, exhibit initiative, provide leadership when necessary, and participate in departmental meetings. Depending on location, on-call duties may be required.
