About The Position

The Staff Chaplain - 24hr Rotating position at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) Spiritual Care Services is responsible for providing spiritual care to patients, families, visitors, and staff. This includes bedside visits, outpatient settings, participation in team and family meetings, and goal discussions. The role also involves staff support through 1:1 encounters and group gatherings, as well as developing and leading hospital-wide and community faith-specific and interfaith services. The chaplain will work as a team member in accordance with the department's mission and vision statements. This position requires availability for overnight on-call and weekend shifts and covers both Brigham and Women's Hospital and Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in a related field of study.
Four or more units of Clinical Pastoral Education from an accredited training program (ACPE preferred).
Experience in a hospital/healthcare setting or relevant spiritual, ministry, pastoral, congregational or other experience (2-3 years required).
Knowledge of various religious practices, health care ethics, behavioral health, trauma informed care, crisis response, and grief and bereavement counseling techniques with patients and families.
Ability to work independently and excellent organizational skills.
Proficient at documenting encounters in a patient’s electronic medical records and using Microsoft Suite.
Proficient at multitasking and have a high level of problem-solving skills.
Excellent listening and verbal communication skills.
Availability for Overnight On-Call and Weekend Shifts Required.

Nice To Haves

Graduate Diploma in a Related Field of Study.
Board certified chaplains with APC, NAJC, or NACC.

Responsibilities

Counsel individuals or groups concerning their spiritual, emotional, or personal needs.
Share information about religious issues by writing articles, giving speeches, or teaching.
Respond to requests for assistance during emergencies or crises.
Visit people in homes, hospitals, or prisons to provide them with comfort and support.
Administer religious rites or ordinances.
Provide spiritual care to patients, families, visitors, and staff.
Participate in team meetings, family meetings, and goal discussions.
Provide staff support through 1:1 encounters and group gatherings.
Develop and lead hospital-wide and community faith-specific and interfaith services.
Document encounters in a patient’s electronic medical records.
