About The Position

The Brigham and Women's Hospital, Inc. is seeking a Staff Chaplain for Spiritual Care Services. This is a 24-hour rotating position that requires availability for overnight on-call and weekend shifts, covering both Brigham and Women's Hospital and Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital. The role involves providing spiritual care to patients, families, visitors, and staff through bedside visits, outpatient settings, team meetings, family meetings, and goal discussions. Staff support is offered through 1:1 encounters and group gatherings. The Chaplain will also develop and lead hospital-wide and community faith-specific and interfaith services, working as a team member in accordance with the department's mission and vision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Related Field of Study required.
  • Four or more units of Clinical Pastoral Education from an accredited training program, ACPE preferred.
  • Experience in a hospital/healthcare setting or relevant spiritual, ministry, pastoral, congregational or other experience (2-3 years required).
  • Knowledge of various religious practices, health care ethics, behavioral health, trauma informed care, crisis response, and grief and bereavement counseling techniques with patients and families.
  • Ability to work independently and excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficient at documenting encounters in a patient’s electronic medical records and using Microsoft Suite Programming.
  • Proficient at multitasking and have a high level of problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent listening and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate Diploma in a Related Field of Study preferred.
  • Board certified chaplains with APC, NAJC, or NACC preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide spiritual care to patients, families, visitors, and staff.
  • Conduct bedside visits and see patients in outpatient settings as assigned.
  • Participate in team meetings, family meetings, and goal discussions.
  • Offer staff support through 1:1 encounters and group gatherings.
  • Develop and lead hospital-wide and community faith-specific and interfaith services.
  • Counsel individuals or groups concerning their spiritual, emotional, or personal needs.
  • Share information about religious issues by writing articles, giving speeches, or teaching.
  • Respond to requests for assistance during emergencies or crises.
  • Visit people in homes, hospitals, or prisons to provide them with comfort and support.
  • Administer religious rites or ordinances.
