About The Position

This position is PRN, as needed, hours, shifts and day may vary. Regularly planned shifts will be on Saturdays and Sundays. To compassionately respond to spiritual and emotional needs of hospital patients, families, staff and the wider community, demonstrating sensitivity to and respect for diversity in religious, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. One Unit of Clinical Pastoral Education is required.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • A Master of Divinity degree or its equivalent from an accredited seminary (Association of Theological Schools) or university.
  • Ordination and proper ecclesiastic religious endorsement from the ordaining body.
  • 1 unit minimum of Clinical Pastoral Education

Nice To Haves

  • 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education including a 1 year residency
  • Experience in parish based ministry, a minimum of 5 years
  • Experience in a healthcare related field, a minimum of 2 years

Responsibilities

  • Supports hospital mission and values statement, strategic plan and vision, and philosophy of the Chaplaincy Department.
  • Understands and embraces a collegial method
  • Provides pastoral care to patients, families, staff and wider community focusing on the spiritual and emotional needs presented.
  • Communicates effectively and in timely fashion with patients and staff.
  • Facilitates support groups.
  • Demonstrates attentiveness personal and professional self-care, including compliance with hospital-wide educational training.
  • Recognizes and honors the role of Chaplaincy Department within the wider scope of Hendricks Regional Health.
  • Keeps an accurate record of pastoral care work, completing appropriate medical record and departmental documentation according to professional and departmental standards.
  • Provides for or facilitates in arranging for religious rites as is deemed appropriate in response to requests from patients, families and staff.
  • Provides oversight for specific areas of departmental program, working with colleagues to determine implementation of said programs.
  • Participates in all phases of the HRH Bereavement services offered through the Chaplaincy department.
  • Writes devotions and develops communications to enhance the visibility of the Chaplaincy department and awareness of spirituality in the workplace.
  • Understands Advanced Medical Directives documents and assists patients and family members in their understanding and execution of said documents.
  • Participates in Patient Rounds and Care Conferences as available, relating to other disciplines of health care and provides insights of religious and spiritual dynamics of patient care.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity and attentiveness to all patients, families and staff—particularly those dealing with bereavement issues.
  • Regularly attends staff meetings, performing administrative tasks as required and other duties as assigned.
