About The Position

Glenaire is hiring a part-time Chaplain to provide spiritual and religious support services for residents. This role involves visitation, worship leadership, study groups, memorial services, and activity planning. The Chaplain will also interact with local clergy, department directors, and staff, responding to employee needs with cultural and spiritual humility. The position requires a Master of Divinity or equivalent, ordination/endorsement, and completion of ACPE accredited Clinical Pastoral Education. Flexibility in schedule, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a genuine care for older adults are essential.

Requirements

  • Master of Divinity or the equivalent
  • Ordination or endorsement by your denomination or faith group
  • Completion of a Level I Unit of ACPE accredited Clinical Pastoral Education, with additional relevant experience or completion of a residency year of ACPE accredited CPE in a health care setting.
  • Sufficient flexibility in weekly schedule to meet unexpected needs as they arise.
  • Capacity to work within a nursing home environment, where attention to regulations, collaborative work, and confidentiality are paramount.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to empathize, employ active listening skills, form relationships with diverse populations, set appropriate boundaries and work within complex family systems and healthcare teams.
  • Evidence of genuine care and fondness for the special needs and interests of older adults, particularly in conditions of declining health.

Responsibilities

  • Provide pastoral care visits with residents focused on spiritual support and growth during times of changing health, family crisis, or end of life.
  • Complete spiritual assessments, determine proper interventions, and assess outcomes and effectiveness during visits.
  • Visit residents in Independent Living, Assisted Living, and the Healthcare Center (Skilled Nursing).
  • Provide pastoral care to members of the resident's family.
  • Lead (shared with the Chaplain team) up to two Sunday afternoon Christian worship services each month, including familiar hymns, scripture readings, a sermon or meditation, and prayers.
  • Lead or coordinate seasonal worship services or religious observations.
  • Regularly lead worship services at which holy communion is offered.
  • Lead memorial services for residents, especially those without a religious or spiritual community.
  • Organize and/or lead small groups such as Bible or theological study groups, prayer/meditation groups, or support groups.
  • Plan with the Spiritual Life Committee of the Glenaire Residents’ Association.
  • Attend monthly meetings of the Spiritual Life Committee, collaborate with the Committee’s vision and concerns, and assist with the Committee’s activities.
  • Interact with a wide range of local clergy to meet the spiritual needs of residents.
  • Work with department directors and staff in all parts of Glenaire and respond to employee needs.
