About The Position

The Chaplain is responsible for working collaboratively alongside the Haven of Hope program staff to provide emotional, social, and spiritual services for program participants, clients, and Red Shield Family Residence and Eliza Shirley House families. The Chaplain plans, organizes, and delivers pastoral care services to the Haven of Hope, Red Shield Family Residence, and Eliza Shirley House program participants and staff, as appropriate, respecting individual faith perspectives. The Chaplain plans, organizes, and delivers a devotional time during music & arts and recreation programs at least once per week and delivers spiritual programming (e.g., Bible study, prayer meeting, Celebrate Recovery, etc.) to be offered during the day at Haven of Hope. The Chaplain collaborates with program staff to identify ways to engage with program participants and build relationships and collaborates with Community Center Director to provide spiritual support to seasonal program participants. The Chaplain actively engages program participants during Haven of Hope outreach events and collects spiritual program attendance statistics. The Chaplain collaborates with Divisional Secretary for Greater Philadelphia and Haven of Hope Leadership (Community Center Director and Director of PSSM) to identify and assess religious concerns of program participants and surrounding community and assists, as requested, with seasonal assistance to the community. The above list of job duties is not exclusive or exhaustive and the candidate will be required to undertake such tasks as may reasonably be expected within the scope of the post.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a ministry position (paid or volunteer).
  • Comfortable engaging and evangelizing with the community.
  • Comfortable initiating building relationships.
  • Must conduct oneself in a manner that reflects credit on The Salvation Army and its leadership.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills and be detail oriented.
  • Must possess a professional attitude and approach to problem-solving.
  • Must be able to relate to others well.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
  • Must possess a valid PA Driver’s License, as well as qualify for The Salvation Army’s insurance.
  • As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment with recurrent training required every five years thereafter.
  • Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check.
  • Must possess an understanding of and support the mission of The Salvation Army.
