About The Position

The Chaplain provides spiritual care, counsel, education, and spiritual and emotional support to patients, families, and staff members of all faiths and traditions. The role facilitates spiritual understanding and emotional coping and adjustment in the face of illness, injury, or death, and assists with referrals to faith-group leaders or other spiritual providers when appropriate or requested. Care is provided in a culturally competent manner. The Chaplain documents interactions, assessments, and plans for departmental and interdisciplinary colleagues; collaborates with spiritual-care colleagues through referrals, follow-up visits, and hand-off reports; and integrates into assigned interdisciplinary healthcare teams to support whole-person care. The role prioritizes emergent referrals while maintaining regular duties, manages time across variable shifts, and participates in schedules that support continuous coverage. The Chaplain applies working knowledge of medical ethics, recognizes ethical conflicts and caregiver moral distress, initiates ethics consultations, and facilitates advance-care-planning conversations and decision-making.
